A fire broke out at 03:55 local time at a marina on the touristy Istria Peninsula, located on the Adriatic coast in northwestern Croatia. Firefighting crews were dispatched to the region, while the flames spread rapidly due to the wind.
THEY JUMPED INTO THE SEA
Croatian media reported that some boat owners jumped into the sea to escape the flames during the fire, and that firefighters made intense efforts to separate the boats that the flames had not yet reached.
While the fire was brought under control around 07:00, according to the Croatian Civil Protection Directorate, 22 boats were reduced to ashes.
Barriers were placed in the sea to prevent environmental damage.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
