Fireworks launched from a yacht anchored off the world-famous tourist island of Hydra in the Aegean Sea last night sparked a forest fire.
It was reported that the individuals partying on the yacht initially attempted to intervene in the fire but were unsuccessful, and the flames in the Aggios Nikolaos region spread rapidly due to the wind.
While the only remaining pine forest in the Bisti region of the island was completely reduced to ash, some villages and hotels were evacuated during the fire, which lasted until morning and is still ongoing. Military units on the island have been placed on alert.
It was stated that interventions from the sea, land, and air are continuing to bring the fire, which caused a nightmare on the tourist island, under control, and that civil defense and additional firefighting teams have been dispatched from Athens and nearby islands.
