First bloody violation after 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon: Airstrike on Bekaa region

According to information reported by Lebanon's official news agency NNA, Israel has attacked Lebanon once again despite the ceasefire.

The attack took place in the early hours of the morning near the strategically important Litani River, approximately 40 kilometers southeast of the capital, Beirut.

It was reported that the airstrike caused damage to civilian and local elements in the area.

MUTUAL ACCUSATIONS OF VIOLATION

Following the attack, Hezbollah announced that it had carried out rocket fire into northern Israeli regions in retaliation, arguing that Israel had directly violated the terms of the ceasefire. The Israeli side, meanwhile, characterizes the strikes as falling within the framework of "self-defense." Israel's Ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, claimed that Hezbollah was the party primarily responsible for breaking the ceasefire agreement and held the organization accountable.

UNCERTAINTY OVER "SELF-DEFENSE" IN THE AGREEMENT

The 10-day agreement, which came into effect last week and aims to keep the parties at the table, grants Israel the "right to take all necessary self-defense measures against planned or ongoing attacks." The flexibility of this clause provides a legal basis for continued military activity on the ground while also putting the permanence of the ceasefire at risk.

In an announcement made one day before the attack, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had issued a warning for civilians to stay away from the areas around the Litani River, Wadi al-Saluki, and Wadi al-Salhani, citing "Hezbollah's ongoing activities."
