First blow to Trump's deportation order: Mexico rejects US plane carrying migrants

With the decisions taken in his first week, US President Donald Trump aimed to deport migrants living in the country. Following the start of the first 'illegal immigrant hunt' last Friday, images of people being boarded onto planes from the US began to emerge. According to information provided to the press by US sources, Mexico did not allow a US military plane carrying migrants to land.

Military planes carried out two flights to Guatemala on Friday. However, another military plane that the US sent to Mexico was not permitted to land.

According to an NBC News report, unnamed US and Mexican officials confirmed that the US plane was not granted landing permission.

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Friday that the country has 'very good relations' with the US and that there is cooperation on issues such as migration.

In the ministry's statement, it was said, 'We will always welcome the arrival of Mexicans to our territory with open arms.'

While the Mexican official speaking to NBC did not explain why the landing permission was not granted, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not address the incident either.

Earlier this week, the Trump administration announced that it would restart the 'Remain in Mexico' program, which requires non-Mexican asylum seekers to wait in Mexico until their cases in the US are resolved.

The US Department of State and the Pentagon have not yet responded to NBC's request for comment.
