First reaction from the Palestinian Authority to Biden's Gaza admission
The Palestinian Authority has welcomed the remarks made by US President Joe Biden during his State of the Union address regarding the civilians killed in Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip. Biden had stated that more than 30,000 Palestinians killed in Israel's attacks on Gaza were "not mostly Hamas members" and that "thousands of innocent women and children have been killed."
In a statement published by the Palestinian Authority's official news agency WAFA, it was stated: "We express our satisfaction and appreciation for the remarks made by US President Joe Biden in his State of the Union address regarding several issues, primarily Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip."
The statement noted that Biden's words align with the Palestinian reality and the statements of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas regarding a two-state solution and the achievement of "international and Arab legitimacy" through this path.
Emphasizing that a stable solution to the problem would be achieved through "the State of Palestine gaining full membership in the United Nations by a Security Council resolution and recognition by countries that have not yet recognized this state," the statement noted that in this way, Israel would withdraw completely from the lands of the Palestinian state, whose capital is East Jerusalem.
WHAT DID BIDEN SAY?
US President Biden made assessments regarding the current situation in Gaza during his annual "State of the Union" address to a joint session of Congress.
Making an admission-like statement, Biden said, "More than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, most of whom were not Hamas members; thousands of innocent women and children have been killed."
Pointing out that Israel also has a responsibility not to target civilians in the attacks it carries out, Biden used the expression, "This war has taken a greater toll on innocent civilians than all previous wars in Gaza combined."
