The anti-Islam and anti-immigrant Party for Freedom (PVV) emerged as the leading party in the country, winning a quarter of the seats in parliament.
Far-right leader Geert Wilders announced that they have reached an agreement on a four-party coalition government. In a statement to the press, Wilders said, "The good news is that we have reached an agreement among the negotiators, but of course, this will only be finalized once the parties in parliament also reach an agreement." Regarding the debate over the premiership, Wilders added, "We talked about the prime minister today, and we will return to this discussion later."
The agreement of four right-wing and far-right parties to form a coalition government is a first in the country's politics.
The coalition will include the Party for Freedom (PVV), the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), the New Social Contract (NSC), and the Farmer-Citizen Movement (BBB).
It is stated that during the negotiations, Wilders openly distanced himself from his anti-Islam stance and symbolically withdrew three draft laws.
