First statement from Palestinian Hadid after being removed from Adidas ad...
World-renowned Palestinian-American model Bella Hadid, regarding her removal from an Adidas advertisement following backlash from pro-Israel lobby groups and organizations, stated that she was unaware of the historical context of the ad and argued that equating Palestine with terrorism is wrong.
Hadid, known for her anti-Israel views, made a statement on her social media account regarding her removal from the shoe advertisement for which she was the brand face, following the backlash.
Emphasizing that she would never knowingly participate in a project linked to a "horrific tragedy," Hadid stated, "I had no knowledge of the historical connection to the events in 1972 before the ad was released."
Stating that she will continue to fight against antisemitism, Hadid emphasized that what happened at the 1972 Munich Olympics "should not be associated with the liberation of Palestinians."
'PALESTINE IS NOT SYNONYMOUS WITH TERRORISM'
Pointing out that she will always stand with Palestinians, Hadid remarked, "Palestine is not synonymous with terrorism, and this ad inadvertently highlighted an event that does not reflect who we are."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Palestinian-American model Hadid was removed from the shoe advertisement for which she was the brand face following a post made from Israel's official X account.
In the post, Hadid was accused of antisemitism and it was claimed that she was a figure who called for violence.
A spokesperson for sportswear manufacturer Adidas apologized, arguing that Hadid's participation in the advertisement for the shoe used at the 1972 Munich Olympics caused "distress and concern."
The spokesperson claimed that the shoe advertisement had established a connection to "tragic historical events."
At the 1972 Munich Olympics, a Palestinian organization raided the Olympic Village on September 5 and took Israeli athletes hostage; the incident resulted in the deaths of 11 Israeli athletes.
