First visit was to Saudi Arabia: Will Syrian President al-Shara come to Turkey?

Ahmed al-Shara, President of the Transitional Government established in Syria, made his first foreign visit to Saudi Arabia. While it is claimed that al-Shara's next stop will be Turkey, it was stated that the date of the visit would be determined according to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's schedule.

Al-Shara held his first foreign contact in Saudi Arabia after taking office. As part of the visit, al-Shara and Syrian Foreign Minister Essa al-Shaibani went to Riyadh. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had recently congratulated al-Shara on his new position.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan had previously stated during his visit to Damascus that they would support the lifting of international sanctions against Syria.

According to a report by Gerçek Gündem, al-Shara is expected to visit Turkey after Saudi Arabia. It was reported that the visit could take place next week, depending on Erdoğan's schedule.

At the end of January, MIT Chief İbrahim Kalın held talks in Syria and met with al-Shara, Foreign Minister Asad Hassan al-Shaibani, and the head of the Syrian Intelligence Agency, Enes Hattap. Al-Shara's visit to Turkey is expected to be an important step in the diplomatic process between the two countries.
