Flood disaster in Germany: 5 dead, 1 missing

In the resulting flood disaster, 5 people lost their lives, while 1 firefighter went missing. The bodies of 3 people were recovered in Bavaria, and 2 in Baden-Württemberg.

As the heavy rainfall subsided, water levels in the historic city of Passau, where three rivers converge, approached 10 meters, reaching their highest level in over a decade. 

Cargo transport on the Rhine River in some parts of southern Germany has been halted, and a state of emergency has been declared in the Rosenheim region of Bavaria.

Bavarian State Premier Markus Söder described the situation in the region as "serious and critical" in his statement. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the flood disaster in the south serves as a reminder that "stopping human-induced climate change" cannot be neglected.

FLOODING ON THE DANUBE RIVER

Flooding on the Danube River left areas near the riverbank in Linz, Austria's third-largest city, submerged.

All river traffic along the Danube in the Lower Austria region has come to a standstill.
