Floods in Nepal claim 241 lives: Is the climate crisis deepening?

A flood and landslide disaster has struck Nepal, located at the foothills of the Himalayas, the world's highest mountains. 241 people have lost their lives in floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall in the capital, Kathmandu, and surrounding cities.

According to reports in the local press, a statement from the Nepalese Ministry of Home Affairs indicated that search and rescue operations are ongoing following the floods and landslides triggered by extreme rainfall that has affected Kathmandu and its surroundings for 3 days.

The statement reported that 241 people have lost their lives and at least 67 people are missing due to the floods and landslides.

Officials from search and rescue teams noted that some main roads have been closed due to landslides and vehicles have become stranded.

The government announced that education in the region has been suspended for 3 days.

Monsoon rains, which are effective in the country every year between June and September, cause loss of life and property.

Climate activists warn that the environmental crisis is a problem that can no longer be postponed.

Previously, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) had reported that necessary measures to combat the climate crisis have not been taken in both developing and developed countries.
