Former NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg's new role announced

In a statement released by the MSC, it was announced that Stoltenberg, who has stepped down from his role as NATO Secretary General, will succeed Christoph Heusgen as MSC Chairman in February 2025.

The statement noted, "Stoltenberg is a globally respected diplomat, a thought leader on many key security issues, and one of the few Europeans to have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom."

In the MSC statement, Jens Stoltenberg, whose views were included, stated that he has dedicated his entire political life to preserving peace, adding, "It is a great honor for me to serve as Chairman of the MSC and to contribute to the conference's mission of 'peace through dialogue.' There are very few international platforms as important as the MSC in terms of preventing conflicts and promoting dialogue and international cooperation."

Stoltenberg, who served as NATO Secretary General from 2014 to 2024, handed over his duties to former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on October 1.

In addition to his 10-year tenure as Prime Minister in the Norwegian government, Stoltenberg has held significant positions such as Minister of Energy, Minister of Economy, and Minister of Finance.

At the Munich Security Conference, held every February in Munich, Germany, high-level politicians, defense experts, military specialists, and representatives of the defense industry discuss security policy issues.

Meanwhile, the Munich Security Conference will be held for the 61st time in February 2025.
