Former UK Prime Minister Johnson: Listening device found in bathroom used by Netanyahu

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to publish a memoir about his political life. In excerpts of the book being serialized by the British press, Johnson shares intriguing details regarding Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's 2017 visit to the UK. Johnson, who served as foreign secretary between 2016 and 2018, revealed that Netanyahu used his private bathroom at the UK Foreign Office during the visit and that his security team subsequently found a listening device there.

Noting that Netanyahu, whom he addressed by his nickname "Bibi" during their meetings, had asked for permission to use the restroom, Johnson described his private bathroom at the Foreign Office as being located within a secret annex and resembling the men's room of a luxury London club. In his book titled "Unleashed," Johnson wrote, "Bibi stayed in there for a while, and it may or may not be a coincidence, but I was told that later on, during a regular sweep for bugs, they found a listening device in the loo."

Johnson responded to requests from the press for further details regarding his meeting with Netanyahu by saying, "You can find everything you want to know in the relevant chapter of the book."

There is no information available regarding whether Israel was contacted about the incident or if any formal condemnation was issued. On the other hand, it is known that during the same period, Israel was accused of placing listening devices at the White House.

The book containing the memoirs of Johnson, who served as prime minister between 2019 and 2022, is expected to hit shelves in the UK on October 10.
