Uruguay's legendary President Jose Mujica (Pepe) has succumbed to cancer. A symbolic figure of the Latin American left and known as 'the world's poorest president,' Mujica has passed away at the age of 89. He had said, 'I want to be buried next to my dog.'
Uruguay's legendary President Jose Mujica (Pepe) had announced that his esophageal cancer had spread to his liver and that he refused further treatment, and he had revealed his final wishes.
Mujica had said he wanted to be buried under the sequoia tree on his farm, next to his dog, Manuela.
Former Uruguayan President José 'Pepe' Mujica has passed away at the age of 89.
During his term from 2010 to 2015, Mujica was once known as the "world's poorest president" because he donated most of his salary and drove an old Volkswagen Beetle.
