France approves bill banning gender reassignment surgery for minors
The French Senate has passed a bill that would ban gender reassignment surgeries for minors.
The French Senate discussed a bill yesterday evening that includes stricter controls on the prescription of puberty blockers for children.
The bill, introduced by Senator Jacqueline Eustache-Brinio of The Republicans (LR) party, was passed with 180 "yes" votes against 136 "no" votes.
The bill proposes a ban on hormone therapy and surgeries used for gender reassignment for children under the age of 18.
For the bill to become law, it must also be approved by the National Assembly.
