France becomes the first country to constitutionally guarantee the right to abortion!

In France, lawmakers from both the upper and lower houses gathered for a special session at the Palace of Versailles, convened by President Emmanuel Macron, to discuss the inclusion of abortion in the constitution.

Parliamentarians voted to revise the country's 1958 constitution to guarantee women's freedom to have an abortion.

This is the 25th amendment to the constitution, the founding document of modern France, and the first since 2008.

Polls indicated that approximately 85 percent of the public supported the reform.
