France launches investigation into social media platform X

In France, an investigation has been opened into the social media platform X and its executives over suspicions that the platform's algorithm was used for the purpose of "foreign interference." In the reports filed by a French member of parliament and a high-level official working in French public institutions, it was alleged that X's algorithm was used in favor of foreign actors and that the platform opened the door to attempts at foreign interference.

The investigation will be conducted by the National Gendarmerie's Cybercrime unit.
