France has summoned Israel's Ambassador to Paris, Joshua Zarka, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to Israel's new attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
France has reacted to Israel's attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). In a statement issued by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was emphasized that these attacks constitute serious violations of international law and must be brought to an immediate end. The statement noted that Israeli authorities must provide an explanation regarding these incidents and announced that Israel's Ambassador to Paris, Joshua Zarka, has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement emphasized that the protection of UN security forces is an obligation for all parties and stated that all parties must respect this obligation. The Ministry underscored the importance of respecting UNIFIL's freedom of movement so that it can carry out its mandate.
Meanwhile, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation to all personnel in UNIFIL, particularly the French contingent and all other contingents, for their dedication and professionalism under these difficult conditions. Furthermore, it was reiterated that a diplomatic solution based on the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 is an urgent necessity.
ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON UN BASE
Two soldiers were injured after the Israeli army opened fire on an observation post at a UNIFIL base in the city of Naqoura in Southern Lebanon this morning. Additionally, UNIFIL announced yesterday that an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Merkava tank had fired toward an observation tower at UNIFIL's headquarters in Naqoura.
