'Friendly fire' in the Red Sea: Own warplane shot down
The US has announced that it accidentally shot down one of its own warplanes during a military operation in the Red Sea. Two pilots, who survived thanks to their ejection seats, were rescued, with one sustaining minor injuries. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that during an operation in the Red Sea involving the aircraft carrier "USS Harry S. Truman," an "F/A-18" warplane was accidentally fired upon by the cruiser "USS Gettysburg."
PILOTS RESCUED
It was stated that the two pilots in the accidentally struck aircraft were evacuated using the ejection seat system. One of the pilots was reported to have sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED
Stating that the incident has been classified as "friendly fire," CENTCOM announced that an investigation has been launched to examine the details.
OPERATION AGAINST HOUTHI TARGETS
Immediately prior to the incident, it was announced that CENTCOM had conducted airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. It was reported that a missile depot and a command center were struck in these attacks.
