Fuel tanker tragedy in Nigeria
At least 70 people have lost their lives following the explosion of a fuel-laden tanker in Niger State, in northern Nigeria. Tsukwam stated that the explosion occurred while local residents were attempting to collect fuel from the overturned tanker.
Kumar Tsukwam, spokesperson for the Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps in Niger State, reported to journalists that a fuel-laden tanker lost control and overturned on the Dikko-Maje highway in Niger State due to excessive speed.
Tsukwam noted that the explosion occurred while local residents were attempting to collect fuel from the overturned tanker.
Stating that at least 70 people died and dozens were injured in the explosion, Tsukwam indicated that fire crews were dispatched to the scene and rescue operations are ongoing.
In October 2024, more than 180 people lost their lives in Jigawa State, in northern Nigeria, following the explosion of a fuel tanker.
