G7 countries issue condemnation and warning of additional sanctions against Iran
Foreign ministers from G7 member countries have sharply criticized the violence against protesters in Iran, stating, "G7 members are prepared to implement additional restrictive measures if Iran continues its crackdown on protests and the opposition in violation of its international human rights obligations."
Foreign ministers of the G7—comprising the US, Japan, the UK, Germany, France, Canada, and Italy, with the European Union also represented—have issued a joint written statement regarding recent developments in Iran. The statement expressed deep concern over the Iranian administration's approach to the protests, stating, "We strongly oppose the intensification of the Iranian authorities' brutal crackdown on the Iranian people, who have been courageously voicing their legitimate demands for a better life, dignity, and freedom since the end of December 2025."
Highlighting the high number of reported deaths and injuries, the text stated, "We condemn the security forces' deliberate use of violence against protesters, the killing of protesters, arbitrary detentions, and intimidation tactics."

G7 EMPHASIZES HUMAN RIGHTS TO TEHRAN
The text called on the Iranian administration to comply with international human rights standards. In this context, it stated, "We call on the Iranian authorities to exercise restraint, refrain from violence, and protect all rights and fundamental freedoms of Iranian citizens, including the right to freedom of expression, the right to seek, receive, and impart information, and the freedom of association and peaceful assembly, without fear of reprisal."
Reminding that the G7 could take further steps if Iran continues its current approach, the warning was reiterated: "G7 members are prepared to implement additional restrictive measures if Iran continues its crackdown on protests and the opposition in violation of its international human rights obligations."
