Polls open for US presidential election: Early voting underway in 3 states
The US presidential election will be held nationwide on November 5, 2024. However, the US electoral system allows for early voting in some states. Today, polls opened in 3 different US states, and the 'early voting' process has begun.
Ahead of the Congressional and presidential elections to be held in the U.S. on November 5, voters in 3 states headed to the polls today (September 21) for early voting.
As the countdown continues for the presidential election to be held in the US on November 5, early voting has begun in the states of Minnesota, Virginia, and South Dakota.
In the states where the voting process has begun, it was observed that voters started forming queues from the early hours.
Thousands of voters who were unavailable on election day or wanted to avoid potential crowds went to the polls to cast their votes.
In the US, where most states offer early voting options, voters in many regions will cast their ballots in the coming days.
EARLY VOTING PROCESS TO BEGIN IN 8 MORE STATES
Early voting will begin on September 26 in Illinois, October 7 in Montana and Nebraska, October 8 in Indiana and Wyoming, October 9 in Arizona, October 15 in Georgia, and October 16 in Iowa.
Early voting, a controversial topic among voters, is seen by experts as critically important in terms of election results.
TRUMP HAD CLAIMED THE ELECTIONS WERE STOLEN
Former US President Donald Trump had alleged that early voting in the 2020 presidential election led to 'election theft.'
Trump was demanding the abolition of early voting, along with mail-in ballots.
According to a Pew Research Center survey, since the 2020 elections, only 37 percent of Republicans say voters should have the option to vote early, while Democrats support the practice at 82 percent.
