A Mexican Navy ship visiting New York for a holiday celebration has struck the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan.

According to fire department officials and sources, the ship, which had a crew of 277, struck the bridge's road deck, causing serious injuries to a number of crew members.

As reported by NTV, the ship, which was moving in reverse, had its three 43-meter masts strike the bridge and snap one by one.

It was reported that 23 people were injured as a result of the accident, with three of them in critical condition.

The injured were transported to the Brooklyn Navy Yard and surrounding hospitals.

2 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES

New York City Mayor Eric Adams made a statement regarding the accident on the social media platform X.

Stating that the ship struck the bridge due to a failure in its power system, Adams noted that 2 of those critically injured in the accident had lost their lives.

Adams noted that according to preliminary inspections, the bridge did not sustain any damage in the accident.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also offered her condolences in a post on her X account.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
