Wildfires in California are growing! Pacific Palisades destroyed
Wildfires spreading under the influence of strong winds in the U.S. state of California have caused massive destruction in Los Angeles. The fires, which have claimed 5 lives and led to evacuation orders for 180 thousand people, have caused significant devastation, particularly in the Pacific Palisades area. While authorities fear the death toll may rise, security measures have been increased against looting.
In the US city of Los Angeles, wildfires spreading under the influence of strong winds have grown and become uncontrollable.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, while sharing the latest situation regarding the fires, stated that the death toll is 5 but that they fear this number will increase.
"I HOPE I AM WRONG"
In his statement, Luna expressed that work is ongoing with the county medical examiner regarding the death toll, saying, "I hope I am wrong, but I think the number will increase." He summarized the destruction caused by the fire with the words, "Some areas look as if they have been bombed."
EVACUATIONS CONTINUE
In the regions under the influence of the fire, authorities have issued evacuation orders for 180,000 people and evacuation warnings for 200,000 people.
Sheriff Luna stated that evacuation orders must be strictly followed, saying, "These warnings can save lives; it is very important that residents comply with these instructions."
While measures have been increased to maintain order in evacuation zones, it was reported that at least 20 people have been arrested for looting and similar crimes.
PACIFIC PALISADES ALMOST COMPLETELY DESTROYED
Satellite images released by Maxar Technologies revealed the scale of the destruction in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles.
In the images, it was seen that a large portion of the structures north of Sunset Boulevard had been leveled.
The same situation applies to the Marquez Charter School, which was completely destroyed in the fire, and the surrounding houses. Outside of the vegetation shown in red, almost nothing remains.
CRIME AND SECURITY IN THE FIRES
Security measures have been increased due to looting incidents occurring in evacuation zones.
Authorities announced that patrol teams have been increased to protect residents in the region.
Sheriff Luna stated that additional measures have been taken to complete evacuations and ensure security.
RISKS BEHIND THE FIRES
California is known to be one of the regions sensitive to wildfires.
Experts emphasize that strong winds and drought are effective in the rapid spread of the fires.
Additionally, it is pointed out that climate change is increasing fire risks.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FIGHTING FIRES
Evacuation orders must be strictly followed.
Regular checks and inspections should be maintained in fire zones.
Security measures should be increased in high-risk areas.
