German Chancellor Scholz and Egyptian President Sisi hold phone call: Agenda is Gaza Strip
It has been reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The discussion reportedly focused on the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.
According to a written statement by German Government Spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit, Scholz and Sisi, who spoke over the phone, agreed on the urgent need to significantly improve humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip and the provision of supplies to Palestinians amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Scholz reiterated that the German government views a two-state solution as the correct perspective for Palestinians and Israelis to live in peace and security, and thanked President Sisi for the important mediating role Egypt is playing.
The two leaders agreed on the importance of preventing the conflict between Israel and Hamas from spreading regionally.
The phone call also addressed bilateral relations between Germany and Egypt.
