German Chancellor Scholz expresses concerns regarding France
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he is concerned about the results of the upcoming elections in France.
In an interview with the German television channel ARD, Olaf Scholz said, "I am concerned about the elections in France, I want to say that clearly. I hope that parties other than Le Pen's will be successful in the elections, so to speak. The French will decide this."
Stating that regardless of the outcome of the elections in France, he will see French President Emmanuel Macron as the leader of the government, especially at EU meetings, Scholz emphasized that there would still be a change if the far-right were to win the snap elections.
Chancellor Scholz underlined that the results of the European elections in some other countries were even more dramatic, stating, "I can say that this saddens us as much as the results we recorded in Germany."
"YOU CAN PREDICT THAT IT WILL NOT LEAD TO VERY GOOD RESULTS"
Pointing out that elections will be held in the states of Thuringia, Saxony, and Brandenburg in September, Scholz noted that the election of a prime minister from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in these states would be disheartening.
"When you look at Europe and the world, you can predict that this will not lead to very good results," said Scholz, but added that he is confident that parties other than the AfD will also have a majority in the upcoming state parliament elections.
Chancellor Scholz pointed out that cooperating with the AfD is unacceptable, stating, "I have to say that this is unthinkable for the future of Germany."
