German Chancellor Scholz: "I will not send soldiers from our army to Ukraine"

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in a video message shared on social media, stated that NATO is not and will not be a party to the war, saying, "This will remain so. We do not want the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine to turn into a war between Russia and NATO. We are in agreement with all our allies on this matter."

Emphasizing that this also means Germany will not be involved in the war, Scholz stated, "To put it clearly and unequivocally: as German Chancellor, I will not send soldiers from our army to Ukraine. Our soldiers can rely on this, and you can rely on this as well."

Expressing that they will increase support for Ukraine together with partners and allies, Chancellor Scholz noted that the Ukrainian army urgently needs more ammunition and weapons, especially for air defense.

In a statement he made yesterday in the city of Freiburg, Scholz had also said, "There will be no ground troops, no soldiers sent by European states or NATO states on Ukrainian soil. Soldiers serving in our countries will also not actively participate in the war."

MACRON'S STATEMENTS

French President Emmanuel Macron had used the phrase, "We will do whatever it takes to ensure that Russia does not win this war," at the closing of the conference on support for Ukraine, which was hosted by France on February 26.

On the other hand, Macron had said that there was no consensus among European countries regarding sending troops to Ukraine, which has been fighting against Russia for over 2 years, but that this possibility should not be ruled out.
