German Chancellor Scholz: The idea of displacing the people of Gaza to Egypt or Jordan is unacceptable

Scholz responded to a question from a participant at his party's election event in Berlin regarding why Germany provides weapons to Israel, which the participant accused of committing war crimes.

Stating that the perspective on this issue should be a two-state solution where an Israeli state and a Palestinian state can live together in peace, Scholz said, "For me, this concretely means that the Palestinian Authority must also take responsibility for Gaza, and the possibility of a two-state solution must develop from there."

Scholz noted that coexistence would only be possible in this way and that they would not stop advocating for it.

Reacting without naming him to US President Donald Trump, who proposed the idea of exiling Palestinians in Gaza to Arab countries, primarily Jordan and Egypt, Scholz stated, "I also want to say this clearly regarding current public statements: Any resettlement plans, the idea of displacing the people of Gaza to Egypt or Jordan, are unacceptable."

Stating that Germany provides weapons support to Israel for its self-defense, Scholz said, "We evaluated each decision individually. We did not discuss every single decision publicly."

Scholz said they would continue to provide weapons support to Israel, adding, "However, respect for international law, civilian aid to the people of Gaza, a two-state solution, and everything that includes a fair perspective for the future are at the foundation."

Emphasizing that the hope for peace must not be risked now, Scholz said, "This is very, very important. This is not just a pause. A lasting peace must emerge from a ceasefire."

During the event, two people verbally protested Scholz over Germany's provision of weapons to Israel.
