German Defense Minister: We must be prepared for war
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that German society and the armed forces must be prepared for a possible war in Europe.
In a statement to the German television channel ZDF, Pistorius said that the Russia-Ukraine war is a historic turning point for Germany.
Expressing that this war should bring about a "change in mindset" in politics and society, Pistorius said, "We must get used to the idea that there could be a threat of war in Europe, and that means we must be ready for war. We must be ready to defend ourselves and prepare the German armed forces and society for this."
Pistorius added that Germany must increase its defense spending and modernize its armed forces to be able to cope with new security challenges.
