It has been announced that German automaker Volkswagen will recall 114,478 vehicles across the United States due to an issue with the airbag.
WHICH MODELS ARE BEING RECALLED?
According to the statement made by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this recall covers 2017-2019 Beetle and Beetle Convertible, 2012-2014 Passat, 2017 Passat Wagon, and 2006-2007 Passat Sedan models.
PROPELLANT MALFUNCTION
The statement indicated that the driver-side front airbag inflator in the vehicles in question could explode as a result of the propellant degrading when exposed to high humidity, high temperatures, and temperature fluctuations over a long period.
The statement also included a warning that if the inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments could strike the driver or passengers, potentially leading to serious injury or death.
