German Justice Minister bans 'from the river to the sea' slogan!

In a statement made via its X account, the German Ministry of Justice stated, "The phrase 'from the river to the sea' is a Hamas slogan. Hamas is banned from operating in Germany. Therefore, depending on the circumstances of the individual case, the use of this slogan may constitute the use of propaganda for a banned organization. This constitutes a criminal offense."

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION RULING

On the other hand, the Bremen city administration had imposed a ban on the slogans "From the river to the sea" and "Child-killer Israel" for a group of Palestine supporters two weeks ago, but the Higher Administrative Court had ruled that these should be considered within the scope of freedom of expression.

Upon an appeal by Bremen State Interior Minister Ulrich Maeurer against the decision, the court ruled this time that the slogan "From the river to the sea" could not be used, but that the slogan "Child-killer Israel" could be chanted.
