Germany breaks all-time national temperature record

Germany, currently under the influence of a heatwave, has recorded the highest air temperature in its history.

According to preliminary data from the German Meteorological Service (DWD), the highest air temperature in the country's history was measured at 41.3 degrees Celsius at 17:00 local time in the Burbach district of the western city of Saarbrücken.

The previous record for the highest temperature in Germany was 41.2 degrees Celsius, recorded on July 25, 2019, in the towns of Tönisvorst and Duisburg-Baerl in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The DWD had previously stated in an announcement that temperatures could reach up to 44 degrees in some parts of the country over the weekend.

Train evacuated due to air conditioning failure

As events and programs are being canceled one after another in Germany due to the extreme heat, daily life is also facing significant challenges.

Near the city of Bonn in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia state, a passenger train carrying 475 people experienced an air conditioning failure. Unable to complete its journey, all passengers on the train were evacuated.

Two of the passengers experienced respiratory problems due to the extreme heat, and one was taken to the hospital for treatment.

In a statement issued by the police, it was reported that not only the air conditioning but also the train's brakes and compressor malfunctioned due to the extreme heat.
