Germany opposes Ukraine's use of Western weapons
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that he is against the Ukrainian Armed Forces using Western-made weapons to strike targets within Russian territory.
As reported by the German news portal Tagesschau, Chancellor Scholz stated that he is against the Ukrainian Armed Forces using Western-made weapons to strike targets within Russian territory.
Pointing out that he currently sees no reason to expand the scope for the use of German weapons, Scholz reminded that there are clear, established rules agreed upon with Ukraine regarding the supply of these weapons.
"At least that is my view," the Chancellor said, adding that the goal of Berlin's policy toward Kyiv is to prevent the conflict from escalating into a world war.
Russia had previously sent a note to NATO countries regarding arms shipments to Kyiv, stating that the Alliance countries were 'playing with fire.'
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had emphasized that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
The Kremlin had stated that the West's pumping of weapons into Ukraine does not contribute to negotiations and would have a negative impact.
