Germany orders 2,000 military robots for Ukraine: TerMITs to be sent to the front line
Under a program funded by the German Ministry of Defense, 2,000 TerMIT unmanned ground vehicles will be produced for Ukraine.
The German Ministry of Defense will fund the procurement of 2,000 unmanned ground vehicles for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The program will be carried out through the "Quantum Tencore Industries" (QTI) joint venture, established by Munich-based Quantum Systems and the Ukrainian robotics manufacturer Tencore.
The order is reported to be one of the largest single-batch procurements of unmanned ground vehicles in Europe. It was stated that the platforms to be produced will consist of tracked robots called "TerMIT," and the goal is to deliver the first units to the front line within 12 months.
The design process for TerMIT was shaped by the conditions of the war in Ukraine. It is stated that the vehicle, which has been used for various tasks on the front line since 2023, has been developed based on feedback from soldiers.
TerMIT, which is reported to have a payload capacity of approximately 300 kilograms, can be used for logistical tasks such as transporting ammunition, equipment, and water, as well as for the evacuation of wounded soldiers to safe zones.
The production phase of the program is being carried out in Germany to mitigate the risks that could arise in large-scale industrial production due to the threat of air strikes in Ukraine. It is noted that the vehicles, which feature a software-based modular structure, can be integrated into Quantum Systems' central artificial intelligence and management platforms.
