Germany's Red Sea efforts

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock wants the European Union (EU) to reach a swift agreement on a mission to protect commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

Baerbock held a joint press conference in Berlin with France's new Foreign Minister, Stephane Sejourne.

Stating that attacks on freedom of navigation have been observed in the Red Sea, Baerbock expressed that a military operation in the Red Sea is of central importance to the German government.

Emphasizing the importance of the EU playing a role here, Baerbock stated, "Negotiations (at the EU level) are continuing at full speed, and we hope to reach a conclusion quickly."

Foreign Minister Baerbock reported that the German government is making efforts at the EU level for a joint mission.

Drawing attention to French Foreign Minister Sejourne's visit to Ukraine, Baerbock said this was an important signal of solidarity.

"IF EUROPE IS UNITED, WE WILL NOT BE IGNORED IN THE WORLD"

Stating that Germany and France stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, Baerbock noted that this will continue until the day Russia withdraws from Ukraine.

Regarding Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip, which have been ongoing for over 100 days, Baerbock also stated that they are doing everything in their power to ensure the release of all hostages held by Hamas.

At the same time, Baerbock pointed out that the suffering in Gaza is at an immeasurable level, stating that children in particular are suffering in Gaza.

Sharing information that they also discussed the situation in Europe during the meeting, Baerbock used the expression, "If we are united in Europe and speak with one voice, we will not be ignored in the world."

French Foreign Minister Sejourne also stated that they discussed the situation in Ukraine with Baerbock, saying, "We are in full agreement that we must support Ukraine for as long as necessary."

Sejourne expressed that the situation in the Red Sea carries the risk of increasing tensions, noting that it is important for Europeans to speak with one voice on this issue.

The two ministers stated that they want to strengthen the "Weimar Triangle," which consists of Germany, France, and Poland.

The French minister shared the information that he will hold talks in the Polish capital, Warsaw, tomorrow.
