Ghanaian President Mahama donates 6 months of his salary to the health sector

President Mahama spoke at the opening ceremony of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as "MahamaCares," held in the capital, Accra.

At the opening, Mahama stated that he would donate six months of his salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, which was established to support the fight against chronic diseases in the country, and invited corporate companies and the business world to support the fund.

Stating that the "MahamaCares" program is not just the government's responsibility but the responsibility of every citizen, Mahama said, "Those who will benefit from this fund are not just our citizens, but your customers, your employees, and even your loved ones."

Mahama also suggested that banks, mining companies, and other private sector representatives direct a portion of their corporate social responsibility budgets to the fund.

The newly established "MahamaCares" fund in the country aims to facilitate access to healthcare services for Ghanaians affected by non-communicable chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, kidney failure, stroke, and complications arising from hypertension.

President Mahama, who took office in January, had presented the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to the public as one of his campaign promises during the 2024 election process.
