Greek Cypriot National Guard training fire causes wildfire in GCA

A fire broke out in the Greek Cypriot Administration due to training exercises by the Greek Cypriot National Guard.

The fire, which started around 12:40 local time near the village of Kalo Chorio (Vuda), spread to a large area in a short time due to the effect of hot weather and strong winds.

The villages of Agia Anna and Psevdas were evacuated as a precaution, and numerous firefighting teams were dispatched to the region.

While some houses in the village of Agia Anna were affected by the fire, firefighting teams had difficulty reaching the source of the fire in the shooting range due to the risk of unexploded ordnance.

The fire, which was intervened from the air and ground, was completely brought under control as of 18:40, and approximately 20 hectares of land were reduced to ashes.
