Greek farmers protest at the Turkish border

Farmer protests are continuing in Greece as well.

Farmers, who have been protesting across Greece for about 4 weeks, have further hardened their stance following a national meeting held in Larissa Nikaia.

TRANSPORTATION HALTED WITH HAY BALES AND TRACTORS

Approximately 140 farmers took to the streets with their tractors in the town of Kastanies near the Pazarkule Border Gate. During the protest in the evening hours, the farmers blocked the Kastanies-Evros road to traffic using hay bales and tractors.

After the action, which lasted about 1 hour, the road was reopened to traffic in one direction.

Greek farmers demanded tax-free agricultural fuel, low tariffs for electricity, subsidies for food and feed, the non-implementation of the European Union's (EU) new common agricultural policy, 100 percent compensation for products and coverage of income losses, and the prevention of illegal imports from the government.
