Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias addressed the needs of the Greek Armed Forces in a speech at Parliament ahead of the vote on the establishment of the Hellenic Defense Innovation Center.
Drawing attention to Greece's geographical proximity to Ukraine and Palestine, Dendias said, "If there is a neighbor that questions our sovereignty, our sovereign rights, and international agreements regarding the definition of minorities, this is a threat to our existence. Both the legal and geographical borders of our country are being threatened."
On the other hand, Dendias spoke as follows regarding the progress made in shipbuilding in Turkey:
Turkey has truly entered a major space in shipbuilding and raw material acquisition. Greece has always strived for superiority at sea; this was the case even during the era of the ancient city-states. The Navy needs modernization. We fell very far behind during the crisis years; we could not find the money to maintain our platforms and systems. This time must be made up for.
