Green passport has lost its value: Even Uganda requires a visa

The special, or green, passport—granted to civil servants, athletes, and businesspeople who meet certain conditions and seniority requirements—used to provide visa-free travel to many countries; it has now lost its value. It has emerged that even Uganda is requiring visas from Turkish green passport holders. İYİ Party Parliamentary Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez announced that a Turkish businessperson with a green passport, who has been conducting trade with Uganda for years, was unable to make their trip last weekend due to a visa obstacle.

THEY DEMANDED FINGERPRINTS

Çömez described what happened as follows:

“Our businessperson had to forfeit their ticket, for which they paid 22 thousand TL, and returned in despair. They applied for an online visa and began waiting for the result. This time, they called them and invited them to Ankara, saying, ‘You must provide fingerprints; you cannot enter the country without them.’ Desperate, they completed that step as well and began waiting.” Criticizing the point to which the AKP has brought the country in foreign policy, Çömez remarked, “Just look at what Idi Amin’s country is doing to the country of the world leader.”
