Greenland assesses contacts with the US as 'too early'

Contacts between Greenland and the US regarding the latter's presence in the autonomous territory, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, are ongoing.

Greenland's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Motzfeldt, made assessments regarding the negotiations with the US during a joint press conference held in the capital, Nuuk, alongside Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand.

While noting that the contacts are "continuing in a positive manner," Motzfeldt emphasized that the discussions have not yet reached the point Greenland is aiming for. Pointing out that the process will be long, Motzfeldt stated that it is too early to speculate on the direction the talks will take, saying, "We are not where we want to be yet. This will be a very long road, and it is still too early to say where we will ultimately end up."

Danish Foreign Minister Rasmussen, in a statement to the Danish press, announced that additional meetings with the US are planned to address issues concerning Greenland. Recalling that a special working group has held its first meeting within this scope, Rasmussen said that a second meeting is expected to take place soon, but that there is no clear schedule yet.
