Greta Thunberg released after being detained in London
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was detained in London during a protest against the "Energy Intelligence Forum" meetings, which were also attended by leading oil companies. Thunberg was subsequently released on bail.
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg participated in protests on October 17 in front of the InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane, where oil executives were meeting. Protesters attempted to block the entry of participants, including ministers, foreign diplomats, and oil company executives, into the hotel.
London police intervened against the protesters and detained 6 people, including Greta Thunberg. Fossil Free London announced the moments the Swedish climate activist was detained on its own X account.
THE WORLD IS DROWNING IN FOSSIL FUELS!
In a statement to reporters before joining the protest, Thunberg said, "The world is drowning in fossil fuels. Our hopes, dreams, and lives are being washed away by a flood of greenwashing and lies. The fossil fuel industries have known the consequences of their business models for decades, yet they have done nothing."
"BEHIND CLOSED DOORS..."
Addressing the crowd during the protest, Thunberg also stated, "Behind these closed doors at the oil and money conference, spineless politicians are making deals and compromises with lobbyists from the destructive industries, the fossil fuel industry."
TO APPEAR IN COURT ON NOVEMBER 15
The arrested Swedish environmental activist was released on bail pending further investigation. Thunberg will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on November 15.
