Haley wins Republican primary in Washington: Trump defeated for the first time
Nikki Haley has surpassed Donald Trump in the Republican primary in Washington, D.C. With this result, Trump has suffered his first defeat in the primaries.
In the Republican Washington primary, former president Donald Trump received 33.2% of the vote, while Nikki Haley, who secured 62.9% of the vote, won her first primary victory.
With this result, Haley became the first woman in U.S. history to win a Republican primary. In contrast, Trump had emerged victorious from all primaries held so far. Trump holds a significant advantage in becoming the Republican presidential nominee based on the results obtained to date.
Regarding the delegate count that will determine the Republican presidential nominee, Trump has reached 247 delegates based on the results so far. The number of delegates supporting Haley remains at 43.
Haley's campaign spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas made a statement following the primary in Washington, saying, "It's not surprising that Republicans closest to Washington are rejecting Donald Trump and all his chaos."
In the U.S. media, Haley's victory is being interpreted as 'symbolic.' Trump is expected to dominate the remaining primaries just as he has in the previous ones.
