Halloween celebrated in Saudi Arabia
The Western-originated Halloween was celebrated in Saudi Arabia this year as well. The streets of Saudi Arabia were filled with colorful masks and monsters.
Saudi Arabia celebrated Halloween with great enthusiasm. In the country, which is home to holy cities such as Mecca and Medina, the streets were overflowing with creative costumes. An event called 'Horrorcon' held in Jeddah provided visitors with moments of terror. This fair featured many horror themes, from haunted houses to vampires, and saw intense interest at the beginning of November.
The Saudi Arabian government views such events as an opportunity to boost tourism. Every year, thousands of tourists flock to the country to see these celebrations firsthand. In the country, which is governed by Sharia law, some rules are relaxed for tourists.
On the other hand, Halloween celebrations in Turkey were met with mixed reactions. Colorful costumes and parties were criticized by some segments of society. In particular, the detention of a young man who wore an imam costume and carried a beer bottle sparked controversy. This young man was released shortly after.
While these celebrations in Turkey are subjected to accusations of 'immorality,' they are seen as the new face of tourism in Saudi Arabia. This differing approach between the two countries highlights the perception of Halloween in Eastern societies.
