US President Donald Trump made a statement on his Truth Social account regarding the negotiations he is conducting concerning the Russia-Ukraine war. Stating that he wants to avoid steps that would push Russia away from the negotiating table, Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump stated, "My decision on Russia is very simple. I am currently conducting peace negotiations in the war between Russia and Ukraine, and I do not want to do anything that would foolishly push Russia away from the negotiating table." Arguing that "great progress" has been made in the talks, Trump noted that this also includes hostage negotiations.
In his statement, Trump also touched upon Russia's support for Iran, saying that Moscow has done "very little" for the Islamic Republic of Iran and that he wants it to stay that way. Trump argued that certain steps could disrupt this balance.
Stating that Zelensky has been targeting diesel refineries in Russia, Trump claimed that these attacks have harmed global diesel markets, including those in the US. Trump expressed that farmers, those involved in livestock, and businesses have been affected by this situation.
Trump continued his criticism of Zelensky with the following words: "Zelensky doesn't care about that, and frankly, with all the money that Europe has given him and that 'crooked' Joe Biden has given him in the past, he does not want to end this war and probably never wanted to."
Arguing that Ukraine has been severely damaged due to the war, Trump suggested that a better deal could have been made two years ago. The US President concluded his statement with the words, "I want this war to end!"
