He admitted to sexually abusing 9 boys

Conrad Mainwaring, a former athlete being held in custody in Massachusetts, admitted in court that he sexually abused boys while coaching at a sports camp in Berkshire County.

According to court records, 9 victims who filed complaints against the 72-year-old former athlete detailed incidents in which they were sexually assaulted multiple times by Mainwaring at a youth sports camp approximately 40 years ago.

It was stated that the elderly athlete, who represented his country, Antigua, in the 1976 Summer Olympics, pleaded guilty to 14 of the 16 charges of indecent assault and battery brought against him in the case file.

PROSECUTOR USED THE TERM PARTIAL JUSTICE

The court file included information that after the sports camp where he worked between 1976 and 1979, Mainwaring coached student athletes at Nottingham High School in the same region in 1980.

Massachusetts District Attorney Timothy Shugrue stated in a written release that he used the term "partial justice" for Mainwaring's prosecution, because the number of his victims "could be much higher than known."

Shugrue commented, "The defendant used his status as a successful athlete and his position of power to abuse countless adolescent boys. The defendant repeatedly isolated and abused victims with similar profiles in similar ways and under similar circumstances. There is no doubt that Conrad Mainwaring is a serial child abuser."
