He once said 'there is no climate crisis': Trump's Energy Secretary nominee announced

Donald Trump has nominated energy company CEO Chris Wright as Secretary of Energy.

Continuing to announce appointments for his cabinet for the new term, Trump made a statement on the matter via his own social media platform, Truth Social.

In his statement, Trump said, "I am thrilled to announce that Chris Wright will be joining my Administration as both U.S. Secretary of Energy, and Member of the newly formed Council of National Energy."

Stating that Wright is a leading technology expert and entrepreneur in the energy sector, Trump noted that he has worked in the fields of nuclear, solar, geothermal, oil, and gas.

Trump remarked, "Most importantly, Chris was one of the pioneers who helped launch the American Shale Revolution that fueled American energy independence, and transformed the global energy markets and geopolitics."

Providing information regarding the Council of National Energy, Trump stated that the council will consist of departments and agencies involved in the permitting, production, generation, distribution, regulation, and transportation of all forms of American energy.

Trump noted that the council will cut red tape, increase private sector investments across all sectors of the economy, and focus on innovation rather than long-standing but "totally unnecessary" regulations.

Wright, who is also one of Trump's campaign donors, leads Liberty Energy, a company that provides services and technology to companies engaged in onshore oil and natural gas exploration and production.

Wright, who used the phrase "There is no climate crisis" in a video he posted on LinkedIn last year, is known as a fossil fuel advocate.

Wright must receive confirmation from the Senate to begin his duties.
