It has been reported that Israeli President Isaac Herzog used Turkish airspace during his trip to Baku. Herzog traveled to Azerbaijan to attend the Seventh Meeting of the Council of Heads of State and Government of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
According to reports in the Israeli press, Herzog reached Baku from Tel Aviv on a scheduled Azerbaijan Airlines flight. It was stated that the plane used Turkish airspace to reach Azerbaijan instead of the longer route over the Black Sea, which is considered risky due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Responding to a question regarding the passage of Herzog's plane through Turkish airspace, a Turkish official stated that no request had been made to Turkey regarding the use of its airspace.
Noting that it was understood Herzog was traveling on a scheduled flight, the official said, "In accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization rules, passenger lists are not shared."
The statement came following discussions regarding the flight route preferred for the Israeli President's visit to Baku. It was emphasized that the passage in question took place within the scope of a scheduled passenger flight.
