While conducting a standard assessment at the Treasury, archaeologists detected undiscovered chambers underground with the help of radar technology. Excavation work was subsequently launched, and surprising results were obtained.
12 SKELETONS AND AN ANCIENT CHALICE
In this underground tomb, believed to belong to the Nabataean Kingdom in Petra, archaeologists found 12 skeletons dating back to the 1st century B.C. What was interesting was that one of these skeletons was holding a ceramic chalice in its hand. These extraordinary findings could provide scientists with new information about the Nabataean Kingdom.
'PETRA IS STILL A MYSTERY'
Archaeologist Richard Bates from the University of St. Andrews emphasized the importance of this discovery, saying, "We always thought there could be more tombs, but we had not yet discovered a tomb where burials were still found." Pearce Paul Creasman, Executive Director of the American Center of Research, stated that despite Petra's fame, it still holds many secrets. "Although the Treasury is known as a royal tomb, in many respects it is still a mystery to us," he added.
