Donald Trump nominated investor Scott Bessent for the Treasury Department
Continuing to announce appointments for his upcoming cabinet, Trump stated in a post on his own social media platform, Truth Social, "I am very pleased to nominate Scott Bessent to serve as the 79th Secretary of the Treasury of the United States."

Stating that Bessent is highly respected as one of the world's foremost international investors and geopolitical and economic strategists, Trump noted that Bessent's story is an example of the "American Dream".
Emphasizing that Bessent is a strong advocate of the "America First" agenda, Trump noted the following:
"On the eve of the 250th anniversary of our great country, he will help me carry the US into a new Golden Age by strengthening our position as the world's leading economy, center of innovation and entrepreneurship, and the most attractive destination for capital, while at the same time unquestionably maintaining the US dollar's status as the world reserve currency. Unlike past administrations, we will ensure that no American is left behind in the next and greatest economic boom, and Scott will lead this effort for me and the great people of the US."
Stating that his administration will restore "freedom, strength, resilience, and efficiency" to American capital markets, Trump expressed that they will revitalize the private sector and help curb the unsustainable trajectory of federal debt.
Trump conveyed that Bessent will support policies to increase US competitiveness, eliminate unfair trade imbalances, and create an economy that prioritizes growth through global energy dominance.
Scott Bessent, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the investment advisory firm Key Square Group, has been in the investment management business for over 35 years.
It is known that Bessent also served for a period as the chief investment officer at American billionaire George Soros's company, Soros Fund Management.
Scott Bessent must receive confirmation from the Senate in order to take office.
