Houthis in Yemen: US and UK launch attacks on 5 cities

On the Houthi-affiliated news site "Ansarullah," it was reported that the US and the UK carried out 11 airstrikes on the Hayfan and Al-Barah regions in the city of Taiz.

The report noted that the attacks in Sana'a were concentrated in the Al-Nahdain and Attan regions.

While no information was provided regarding the results of the attacks, the US and the UK have not yet made a statement on the matter.

The Houthis had previously announced that the US and the UK had carried out attacks on the Al-Luhayya and Ad-Durayhimi districts of Hodeidah.

On the other hand, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that 6 Houthi anti-ship missiles, which were being prepared to be launched from Yemen into the Red Sea, had been destroyed.

In a written statement made on CENTCOM's X social media account, it was stated that a self-defense strike was carried out against 6 Houthi anti-ship missiles that were being prepared to be launched against ships in the Red Sea.

It was noted that the strike was carried out to protect freedom of navigation and to make international waters safer.

THE LATEST SITUATION IN THE RED SEA

The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen began seizing commercial ships they claimed were affiliated with Israeli companies off the coast of Yemen on October 31, 2023, in response to Israel's attacks in Gaza, and also began launching attacks on some of them with drones and missiles.

During this process, US forces have announced many times that they have shot down missiles and kamikaze drones launched from Yemen.

Following the actions of the Houthis, many shipping companies decided to suspend their voyages in the Red Sea.

The US announced on December 18, 2023, that a multinational "maritime task force" called "Operation Prosperity Guardian" had been formed with the participation of a group of countries against Houthi forces, on the grounds that global maritime trade security was in jeopardy.

On January 10, the Houthis announced that a US ship in the Red Sea had been targeted with missiles and kamikaze drones on the grounds that it was supporting Israel.

On January 11, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution submitted by the US and Japan demanding an immediate end to the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.
